Makgeolli is Korea's oldest alcoholic drink — a lightly sparkling, milky-white rice wine with a gentle sweetness and slight tartness. It is also used in cooking to tenderize meat and add depth to pancake batter. At around 6-8% alcohol, it is much lighter than soju.
